Perception of Sustainable Development Goal 6 Progress in the Metropolitan Area of Panama

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development contemplates a plan for sustainable development by nations that includes better quality of life for the population, environmental restauration and conservation and prosperity. This Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 6 seeks to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation. In Panama, there has been some progress within this SDG according to the Sustainable Development Report 2022. However, data for all targets and indicators within SDG 6 were not found. On the other hand, the perception of the population may not match the published data on progress. The aim of this study is to evaluate the perception of the resident population in the metropolitan area of Panama regarding the progress of SDG 6. A survey was conducted in the metropolitan area of Panama based on the targets and indicators of SDG 6. The metropolitan area of Panama, was selected as a first study since it concentrates a high percentage of the country's population. The results cover the population's perception of most of the targets and indicators of SDG 6, complementing the indicators already published for Panama. For most goals, people's perception is that there are still important challenges.
