Ramadan Spirit: A Digital Game Incorporating Malaysian Culture to Teach Malaysian Muslim Children the Islamic Essence of Ramadan

Muslim communities around the world hold Ramadan in the highest regard. Muslims strive to enhance their moral character and good moral habits during this month to increase their chances of receiving blessings. In Malaysia, parents hope their kids will learn the same values and embrace the spirit of Ramadan. It is not simple to transmit values and information to the next generation. Nowadays, game-based learning is common, especially for efficiently instructing kids. There are not many mobile games available with Islamic content, especially on Ramadan that are appropriate for Malaysian culture. Therefore, this game aims to encourage and educate Malaysian Muslim children about fasting and good deeds during Ramadan. The objective of this project is to create a kid-friendly Ramadan mobile game application that adheres to Malaysian culture. The development of user interface (UI), user experience (UX), gameplay, game design, environment, and narrative are the key points of this research. The 2D mobile game for Android users was developed using Unity, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. The technique for this research's development is based on the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) model. The effectiveness of the finished game was assessed among chosen target audiences, including families with kids between the ages of 6 and 12, as well as younger target audiences. User approval in terms of game design, functionality, and overall performance was measured using an adaptation of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The survey's outcome demonstrates that all respondents (100%) agreed that the Ramadan Spirit game taught them things they could use in real life.
