3D MIMO ISAR Imaging Using Automotive Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar can achieve high-precision measurements of distance and velocity, which has drawn much attention for both academic research and industrial applications. Traditional inverse synthetic aperture radar can produce two-dimensional (2D) imaging of target's reflectivity. By combing multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) and inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) techniques, it is possible resolve multiple scatters in a range-Doppler cell. In this paper, we present two-dimensional (3D) MIMO ISAR imaging experiments using automotive cascaded mmWave radar sensor. Turntable ISAR imaging results demonstrate the effectiveness of high-resolution 3D imaging. Experimental results on concealed targets show the 3D penetrating imaging ability of mmWave MIMO radar.
