Measurement of mass attenuation coefficient by K fluorescence radiation device

Mass attenuation coefficient (μ_m) is a macroscopic physical quantity used to describe the probability of interaction between Xrays and matter, and it is also an crucial physical quantity in material ray analysis. The K fluorescence radiation device is an ideal device for studying the mass attenuation coefficient because of its monochromatic property and good stability. When the X-ray energy is in the 31 keV-75 keV region, the mass attenuation coefficients of three common metal materials, Al, Cu and Sn, were experimentally measured by K fluorescence radiation device and high-purity germanium detector. And compare and analyze the measured mass attenuation coefficient with the reference value in the NIST database, and the reasons for the differences in the measured values under different material thicknesses were analyzed. The results show that the deviation between the experimental and reference values of the three metal materials is small.The relative deviations of most measured values and reference values are within 5%, and the relative deviations of a few data are between 5% and 7%.
