Comparing the Effects of Biochar Addition to Polypropylene on the Impact Resistance of Biocomposites

To compare the impact resistance of pure polypropylene and polypropylene blended with 10%wt bio-char. Experiment was conducted for two groups namely Group 1 (pure polypropylene) and Group 2 (polypropylene filled with Biochar). Sample size was determined using G power calculations and it was derived to be 20 samples per group. Twin screw extruding process and injection moulding were used for the fabrication of the samples. Charpy's impact resistance test was done according to ASTMD256 standards. It was inferred from the results that the impact resistance of the composite when adding biochar was 3.7J/M, whereas the impact resistance of the composite without addition of biochar was 1.95J/M. It was revealed that when adding novel biochar particulates, the impact resistance of the composite increases by 27 % approximately.
