A Proposed Self-Powered Smart Pole for Highways

Research on sustainable energy solutions is very popular today. One of the main issues is the use of renewable energy sources to reduce pollution and GHG emissions. So, controling highway lighting is essential since it represents 6% of total annual energy consumption. The conventional system required more efforts, cost, and have lots of power quality issues. This paper introduces a proposed highway's self-powered smart pole. The proposed self-powered smart pole is validated via analysis of its validity at the highway between Hurghada and Marsa-Alam in Egypt. As a result of the analysis and simulation, the proposed self-powered smart pole reduces the size of the storage system by 46.8% while providing night lighting for highways. Also, the proposed smart pole provides many benefits and smart services along the highways.
