Detection of Buried Chiral Objects Using Electromagnetic Scattering in Two Dimensions

The detection of buried objects is a major issue which concerns the scientific community for years. Many scientific applications, such as biomedicine, telecommunications, etc., require the detection of objects for which the shape and the material properties are not known a priori. For this reason, the development of a mathematical framework for the detection of these objects is of great interest. By the present work, we intend to deal with the detection of dielectric chiral objects in an achiral environment using time-harmonic electromagnetic scattering. The methods of detecting buried objects (georadar, underground GPS) and known detection instruments cannot be applied to chiral materials, as it is shown by the mathematical models that describe these materials. So, we will describe the mathematical model of scattering that corresponds to a dielectric chiral object. For convenient, we will solve an inverse scattering problem in two dimensions by developing a chiral reciprocity gap functional method.
