Understanding Real-Time Data from Drilling for Oil and Gas in the North Sea

This paper focuses on the real-time data that are available from the drilling operations for oil and gas. In addition, this paper focuses on the data from the operations on the Norwegian continental shelf. Nowadays, a huge volume of data from drilling is available. This data is created by a large number of sensors and put together by different intermediaries. However, due to the newness of this data, most of the data is left unprocessed though it costs a massive amount of money to get it. Therefore, this paper attempts to understand how the data is created and composed so that the reader can start understanding the data and make use of it. Firstly, this paper introduces the data by explaining the information architecture and the data composition and collection. Secondly, this paper presents the sensors and telemetry for data collection. Finally, this paper proposes some directions for the optimal use of the data.
