Self-regulation and Supervision: A Study on Online Privacy Protection of Chinese and American Children in Mobile Apps

Due to the immature physical and psychological characteristics of children and the significant concealment of the Internet, it is particularly common that children’s online privacy has being infringed in mobile apps. This paper explores the protection of children’s privacy self-determination of common mobile apps in China and America, focuses on the mode of Internet industry self-regulation and administrative supervision, and gives a comparative analysis of the corresponding measures of children’s online privacy protection for children in China and America. Based on this, the paper puts forward the path of children’s online privacy protection in China. The paper proposes that it is necessary to improve the guardian informed consent system, promote the self-regulation on children’s online privacy protection, and strengthen the administrative supervision of the app industry, so as to effectively protect children’s online privacy.
