Integrating Tetrahydrofurfuryl Methacrylate onto Perovskite Surface for High Stability Perovskite Solar Cells

Organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite materials have attracted extensive attention owing to their outstanding optoelectronic characteristics. One-step spin coating with antisolvent proved to be an efficient method for preparing perovskite films in small-area devices. For environmental reasons, it is worth advocating for avoiding the introduction of non-environmentally friendly antisolvents in the preparation of perovskite films. Our work prepared high-quality perovskite films by vacuum quenching assisted spin-coating without antisolvent. To further improve the hydrophobicity of the perovskite surface, a light-cured cross-linking tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate (THFMA) molecule was selected to realize the inner encapsulation of perovskite films. Based on the internal packaging strategy, the champion perovskite solar cell significantly improves the device efficiency and stability compared with unmodified devices. The champion perovskite solar cell stored in the air for 30 days still preserved more than 85% of the original device’s efficiency. Finally, we confirmed that the polymerized tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate layer not only passivates the surface defects of perovskite films but also enhances the hydrophobicity.
