Evaluation of the Dynamic Performance of an USB Oscilloscope

In this paper the dynamic performance of an USB oscilloscope is determined through the Effective Number Of Bits (ENOB) and the baseline noise parameters. The ENOB parameter is estimated by means of the three-parameter sine-fit algorithm. The analysis is performed at different frequencies in two operation modes: normal and resolution enhancement. The latter mode is used to increase the oscilloscope vertical resolution. Moreover, the dynamic performance of the analyzed USB oscilloscope is compared with that of a benchtop Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO) by means of the above parameters.
