Secure Privacy and Utility Preserving Transformation of Smart Grid Networks

Smart grid networks are introduced to solve the problems of ineffective power distribution, wastage and theft in traditional power distribution networks. It is a network of sensor nodes which senses various power quality metrics and sends to sink via multi hop transmissions or through direct IoT channels. Attackers launch men in middle attacks through data infringement and data compromise. They can also inject false data impersonating sensor nodes. Various cryptographic techniques are proposed to defend against these attacks. But data transformed by cryptographic techniques are not suitable for utilities like clustering without decryption. Cryptographic transformation techniques are resource intensive and increase the resource cost of sensor nodes. This work proposes secure, privacy and utility preserving data transformation technique for smart grid networks. The scheme is light weight and has less resource cost at sensor node end. Through simulation analysis, the proposed transformation is found to introduce less than 1% utility distortion and secure against attacks.
