Self-Powered Plantar Pressure and Temperature Monitoring System for Ulceration Prognosis

A self-powered foot plantar pressure and temperature monitoring system (FPPTMS) is proposed that combines the effect of plantar pressure and temperature differences at various locations of the insole for detecting the various critical phases of ulcers on human feet. The integration of a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) based pressure sensor and the electromagnetic generator (EMG) powered temperature sensor, can convert the raw signals from foot pressure and temperature sensor into voltage signals directly. As the fabricated sensors show excellent pressure range detection up to ≈318 kPa and temperature sensitivity in the range of 32°C to 44°C, it shows huge potential for ulceration prognosis.
