Experience in teaching programming related subjects to university students with Asperger syndrome

Autism is a condition that affects people who suffer from it in different ways, so they may require different levels and types of support. Asperger syndrome is considered within the autistic spectrum, with some different characteristics, such as the absence of cognitive delay or a higher level of communication. When it comes to teaching-learning, people with Asperger syndrome require a certain type of attention, since they do not perceive knowledge like others; there are features such as using figurative language or generalized examples, which can complicate their learning. Although the cases in which people with this condition reach the university level are not very common, it is important to have knowledge about teaching-learning, in addition to promoting inclusion, we must be prepared to adapt the methodologies to this and other conditions that we could face. This paper shows the experience of teaching programming to a student with Asperger syndrome and how the teacher and students adapted to create an environment to facilitate their learning.
