TDMA-based broadband fixed radio access: performance and implementation issues of adaptive equalizers

The performance of adaptive equalization strategies for future broadband fixed ATM radio access systems is investigated. The LMS and zero forcing algorithms are suitable for the downlink, whereas for the uplink, a fast converging RLS algorithm has to be employed. Furthermore, a hybrid F/TDMA has to be implemented to transmit the assumed 156 Mbit/s in the uplink. A complexity analysis comparing different RLS algorithms is given, showing that the QR-RLS algorithm is always a good option for the uplink of the application in mind.
