Comments on Electronic Transport in Transition Metal Oxides

Several aspects of electronic transport in nonmagnetic and magnetic transition metal oxides are reviewed. These include high- and low-temperature measurements of conductivity, the Hall effect and the Seebeck effect, and their analysis in terms of the electronic energy structure. Particular emphasis is put on the temperature dependence of the Hall mobility, which gives essential information concerning the correct description of the energy states and the scattering of the charge carriers. The second half of the paper discusses the relation between the transport properties and the magnetic ordering. The properties of LaCoO
3
together with an interpretation suggested by Goodenough are presented to illustrate this point.
