Knowledge and technology transfer: a university experience and perspective

Presents the experience and perspective acquired in knowledge and technology transfer to industry in two education and research programs at the University of Texas at Austin. The philosophy and approaches taken in order to achieve as much success as possible in the transfer have been described. The experience and perspective gained over a period of six years have, in some cases, reinforced common ideas about the ingredients for success, but have also highlighted additional key requirements for success. In addition, very important benefits are derived by the students participating in the activity. Successful knowledge and technology transfer require proactive and persistent interaction by both the universities and the companies.
