An electromagnetic posture measurement system for the treatment of scoliosis

An electromagnetic posture measurement system has been developed to measure topographical features of a human trunk. The system consists of an electromagnetic transmitter and receivers and a data acquisition capability. The electromagnetic system measures the distance and angles of topographical features; the data acquisition system analyses the data and provides feedback to the subject about body position. The distance accuracy is 0.35 cm in the range of 15 to 30 cm and 0.50 cm in the range of 30 to 45 cm. The angle accuracy varies from 1.5/spl deg/ to 5/spl deg/ for the range 0 to 90 degrees. With this system, it is now possible to offer a treatment for the trunk deformity associate in children.
