Performance of inverter interfaced distributed generation

Some aspects of the performance of inverter interfaced distributed generation (DG) are presented. The scope is limited to DG systems that interface with an electric utility using a self-commutated voltage source inverter. A simple system model is presented along with a qualitative treatment of fault current contribution and harmonic current injection. Typical means are presented for the detection of faults on the utility system and for the prevention of unplanned islanded operation.
