Using elevated radials with grounded towers

This paper describes a technique in which elevated horizontal radials are used in combination with a grounded quarter-wave tower to construct an AM-broadcast transmit antenna. Computer analysis indicates that the radiation efficiency of these antennas can be within one decibel of that of a conventional base-insulated 1/4-wave tower with an extensive buried-radial ground system.
