Construction and modeling of integrated LCT structure for PFC resonant converter

This work presents the application of a new methodology to obtain a geometric and frequency dependent model of integrated LCT magnetic structure. The modeling procedure is based on the use of 3D axisymetric finite element analysis (FEA) solver to obtain the value of the magnetic and electric fields, as well as the power losses. The main advantages of this procedure is that both of electric, magnetic and coupled effects are considered. Also all geometrical and frequency effects are taken in to account. This simulation takes also in to account displacement current and is coupled with an external circuit. This procedure, named "a magneto-dynamic formulation" was applied to toroidal structure. Measured impedance response of the realized LCT prototype is compared with that obtained by simulation. Two 300 watt experimental converters using conventional discrete and integrated LCT structures were constructed, evaluated and compared.
