An FPGA-Based SIMD Architecture for Video Compression with Scalable Throughput

Data processing using spatial parallelism from single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) machines can be used in image processing to improve system performance regarding data throughput. The spatial parallelism is an alternative for increasing the device operating frequency, generally limited by hardware constraints. In parallel architectures for video processing with high requirements in terms of data throughput, different processing units (PUs) simultaneously operate on pixels belonging to nonoverlapping regions of the image frame.
