Modeling the Closed-Loop Interaction between the Grid and a Multifunctional Electric Vehicle Charging Station Integrated with an Active Power Filter

A high power EV charging station integrated with active power filter (APF) functionality reduces the grid infrastructure cost and improves grid performance. However, the EV charging station's closed control loop is nonlinear because of the interaction of the EV charging station with the grid's impedance. This issue will be investigated in this paper. The paper shows how to transform the problem into a linear, time-invariant (LTI) one. This paper also proposes a method to model the closed-loop EV charging and APF function. This will allow a comprehensive, LTI analysis of the dynamic impact of the charging station to the grid. Furthermore, the conditions of some assumptions are identified, analyzed and validated.
