Implementation of the FALCON-A ISA on FPGA

The FALCON-A, a 16-bit RISC processor, is a simple but powerful CPU for understanding the concepts of computer architecture. This paper describes the implementation of the FALCON-A ISA on Spartan-3E FPGA platform using VHDL. Extensive timing simulations were carried out using the Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE) v12.4. The processor's performance is evaluated by observing parameters like area, speed, and resource utilization. Selected results have been reported at the end of this paper.
