Character Selection with Sympathetic Skin Response when Listening to Sounds

We propose a communication aid that uses sympathetic skin response (SSR) as the input indicator for a device that will assist the disabled. To this end, we used subjects who engaged in character selection while listening to four sounds [white noise, J-POP (Vocal), J-POP (Less-Vocal), and Classical], in order to clarify the influence of sound. Although sound had a weak influence on the target kana, it had a strong influence on the non-target kana. Also, the type of sound had a weak influence on character selection. We also found a correlation between the SSR appearance ratio and Kansei words. For example, the Kansei word 'dissatisfied-satisfied' had significant relativity for the target kana. It was found that the rate decreased for the target kana as the subject felt more satisfied when listening to music.
