Polarization effects of surface plasmon polariton phenomenon in sub-wavelength metal hole-arrays

The phenomena of surface plasmon polariton are widely studied in recent years, because its special optical property that can be candidate for novel optical devices [l, 21. The perforated hole-arrays on metal films have an extraordinary transmittance enhancement in sub-wavelength regimes by surface plasmon polariton (SPP) [3]. The surface plasmon polariton is a phenomenon that the surface charge density occur at a metal/dielectric interface and the exponentially decay at each medium. The high transmittance eficiencies of perforated metal films are caused by surface plasmon polariton between the metal and dielectric interface. In this paper, we found the transmittance spectra of perforated metal films are dependence on hole-sizes when we fix the ratio hole diameter (h) to period (P) in hole-array structures. The transmission spectra of TE and TM polarization light are found with different behavior as increasing the incident angle.
