Solitons and transients in media with near dipole-dipole interaction

This paper studies soliton regimes of light pulse propagation and transient processes in optically dense media with the near dipole-dipole interaction. It is shown that such an interaction permits the soliton propagation to be realized while the pulse duration is not only less than both irreversible relaxation times T/sub 1/ and T/sub 2/ but also when it falls between T/sub 2/ /spl Lt/ /spl tau//sub p/ /spl Lt/ T/sub 1/.
