Microstructural and functional aspects of water transfer under tension in plants

In plants, liquid water coming from the soil is conducted within a network of very fine capillaries (conducting elements) where cavitation occurs. In this article we describe the main physiological and physical phenomena, like cavitation, involved in ascent of sap in trees.
