Effect of magnetic diffusion on temperature distribution in conduction cooled Bi2223 fault current limiter

The effect of the magnetic diffusion on thermal properties in the conduction cooled fault current limiter has been considered. In the experiment using the small model, the temperature distribution in the radial direction of the superconducting cylinder is observed. The numerical calculation of the small model considering the magnetic diffusion into the superconductor has been performed so as to verify the temperature distribution, these results have suggested the heat distribution caused by the magnetic diffusion. The calculations also show that the thermal runaway at low I/I/sub c/ is prevented by arranging the conduction plates on the both outer and inner surface of the superconducting cylinder.
