Method for Measurement of the Metabolic CO2 Concentration through a Small Climate Chamber

This article presents a method for measuring the metabolic carbon dioxide (CO
2
) concentration using a small climate chamber (CC). The CC limits the volume of the indoor space and allows control of the parameters of the environment. An exposure chamber (EC) is placed in the chamber, where the examined subject performs light office work. The best design of the CC and EC, created by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is presented. Together with the design of the small CC, the measuring devices are also presented. They allow monitoring three types of parameters: inlet flow characteristics, exposure characteristics and outlet flow characteristics. Exemplary results from measuring the metabolic CO
2
concentration at three different levels of CO
2
concentration in the inlet air are presented.
