Investigation on Hydrodynamic Evaluation of an Amphibious Transport Vehicle

A novel amphibious transport vehicle was designed, and for obtaining the hydrodynamic performance on the water, simulations were conducted by STAR CCM+. Moreover, wooden model was manufactured and towing tests were performed. The simulation results showed the resistance was so large at maximum speed, which will spend more power to propel. By re-shaping the hull shape area and adjusting the bow plate angle, the resistance can be reduced a little, but the effect was not so obvious. Both results of the experiment and simulation agreed well with each other. Under even keel floating condition, the resistance can be reduced about 11% compared with stern floating condition. This research shows that the resistance can be reduced by preventing the stern from excessive sinking.
