Emission of electrons from a metal tip irradiated by femtosecond IR lasers at wavelengths of 800 and 1240 nm

The use of IR laser radiation (800 and 1240 nm) with femtosecond pulses with a low repetition rate made it possible to provide non-destructive operation with a metal tip as an electron emitter at an increased intensity of laser radiation on the tip. As a result, the emission of electrons with a charge in the range of tens of picocoulombs per laser pulse was obtained from a metal tip with a characteristic radius of curvature of the order of 1 μm. The power-law dependence of the electron pulse charge proportional to the fourth and sixth powers of the laser pulse energy indicates a multiphoton mechanism of electron emission.
