A 100 Kw 1.3 Ghz Phase Locked Magnetron for Accelerators

Calabazas Creek Research, Inc., in collaboration with Fermilab and Communications & Power Industries, LLC, is developing a phase locked, 100 kW peak, 10 kW average 1.3 GHz magnetron-based RF system for driving accelerators. Phase locking will be achieved using a novel approach originated at Fermilab [1] that includes control, on a fast time scale, of both the amplitude and phase of the power coupled into an superconducting accelerator cavity. Development of the magnetron is the first step in demonstrating the method in a system including the magnetron, vector electronics and a superconducting cavity.
