Validation of Map-Based Multipactor Theory Using 3D Simulations

Multipactor is a vacuum discharge based on secondary electron emission that plagues microwaves devices, accelerator structures, and space communication systems. Conventional analyses presume a resonance mode and then proceed to calculate susceptibility regions as a function of device parameters, resulting in modern design standards [1]–[2]. As modern theories continue to identify more complex forms of multipactor, such as high-periodicity and non-resonance, the procedure of isolating individual modes and then deriving susceptibility regions becomes increasingly difficult.
