Research of Improved Traffic Engineering Fault-Tolerant Routing Mechanism in SD-WAN

A research of an improved Traffic Engineering fault-tolerant routing mechanism in Software-Defined Wide Area Networks (SD-WAN) is presented. The mathematical model allows formalizing the case of SD-WAN data plane construction, when each access network to increase fault-tolerance is switched simultaneously not to one but several border routers. The advantage of the solution is improving the level of fault-tolerance with load balancing in the data plane according to the criterion of Traffic Engineering by ensuring the distribution of packet flows using primary or backup routes at the access level between several gateways that create one virtual default gateway. The results of the numerical study of Traffic Engineering fault-tolerant routing processes confirmed the proposed model's effectiveness in implementing the default gateway protection scheme and load balancing in the network.
