Magnetron Injection Gun for an 800 GHz Pulsed Gyrotron

This paper proposes the design and preliminary experiment of a magnetron injection gun (MIG) for an 800 GHz gyrotron operating with a 15T pulsed magnet. The triode type MIG design is performed to control beam parameters for the fundamental harmonic operation (400 GHz) and the second harmonic operation (800 GHz). A pitch factor of 1.3 and a transverse velocity spread of 2.29% were obtained under a 400 mA beam current. With the proposed MIG, the terahertz waves of 383.75 GHz and 803.7 GHz are detected in the experiment.
