Metamaterial-free 2D Materials Enabled Terahertz Flexible Sensors for Molecular Detection and Recognition

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy for highly sensitive and selective detection has attracted an increasing recognition. To improve the sensing performance, THz metamaterials were served as signal enhancing devices. However, the interaction between molecules and bulk materials (such as metal and silicon, frequently used in fabricating metamaterials) is simple, which limits the sensing performance. Here we introduce 2D materials into THz sensors, respectively. Through π-π stacking and Van der Waal's force, such 2D materials integrated absorbers show high molecule detection and recognition ability. Also the flexible sensor present strong robustness over bending. The results show that our 2D materials based sensors are flexible, stable, and versatile, suited for a broad range of sensing applications.
