Broad Spectrum Characteristics of Bi/Er co-doped Silica Optical Fiber in C-band

The spectral and gain characteristics of Bi/Er codoped silica optical fiber are investigated in this paper. The fiber provides four obvious absorption peaks, which result from the energy level transitions of Er
³⁺
and Bi iron. The fiber exhibits ultra-broadband luminescence spectrum region between 1100 and 1700 nm when pumped by 980 nm laser. And the maximum gain of the fiber can reach 34 dB at 1534 nm when the pump power is 131.3 mW. Those prove that this fiber is conducive to the application of laser and amplifier.
