Design And Performance Analysis of PCSOA-MZI Based All-Optical Binary Converter for Octal Inputs

All-optical OR gate using photonic crystal semiconductor optical amplifier (PCSOA) - Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) technique is designed, mathematically examined and the performance is evaluated in terms of Contrast ratio (CR) and Extinction ratio (ER) with calculated output power. Comparatively, proposed design ensures higher ER and CR values than conventional SOA based design when photonic crystal is utilized to control the spread of light in the photonic bandgap. Proposed OR gate is used to implement all-optical octal to binary code converter which converts octal input sequence into corresponding binary output sequences.
