Tightly Coupled Dipole Array with Guanella Transformer and Balun

A 6.2:1 bandwidth, single pol tightly coupled dipole array fed using a Guanella transformer is presented. The array elements are composed of egg crate style, interlocking printed circuit boards (PCBs) which interface with a multi-layer PCB containing the transformer and balun. This compact, cavity enclosed design enables much smaller profile arrays then traditional balun architectures will allow. A fabricated 16 element array is presented to validate the concept.
