UWB MIMO Antenna with Decoupling Strip for 5G Applications

A corner truncated rhombus shaped (CTRS) microstrip line fed
$2\times 2$
multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented. The optimized dimension of MIMO design is taken as
$\mathbf{0.23}\lambda_{0}$
(length)
$\times \mathbf{0.33}\lambda_{0}$
(width)
$\times \mathbf{0.01}\lambda_{0}$
(height). A decoupling conducting strip embedded with tapered ground plane reduces the coupling between the patches. The measured bandwidth varies from 2.78 to 17.43 GHz and isolation value is lower than -19 dB over the entire operating frequency band. The proposed MIMO design is quite unique with compact design and separation between two radiating patches is also very small. The various MIMO antenna parameters such as S-parameters, radiation patterns, envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), diversity gain, mean effective gain (MEG), channel capacity loss (CCL), and total active reflection coefficient (TARC) are calculated using MATLAB and CST Microwave studio simulator. The proposed MIMO design is suitable for 5G and many other wireless applications.
