Effect of Air Density on the Fatigue Life of Wind Turbine Blades

In order to solve the problem of different wind field air density leading to different fatigue life of wind turbine blades, this paper takes a 2MW blade as the research object. In this research, the load of wind turbine blade under different air density based on the blade unit momentum theory is calculated, then the blade load spectrum is established according to the actual measurement data of a wind field in Hunan Province, and the fatigue life of the blade is calculated using ANSYS and nCode Designlife. The fatigue load and cycle life of the blade at different air densities were also quantified. The results show that the air density is inversely proportional to the fatigue life of the blade. The greater the air density, the greater the fatigue damage. The influence of air density in different regions can be accommodated by optimizing the layered design of blade hazardous areas.
