Frequency Scalability of Dual-polarized Flat-wire Open Loop Antennas

This work investigates the frequency scalability of a dual-polarized flat-wire open loop antenna with wide bandwidth and low cross-polarization. Previously, we demonstrated the concept for an L-band design and in this work we extend the analysis to consider the performance of four frequency-scaled antennas operating in L, S, C and X-bands. Two types of scaling, namely, ideal scaling and quasi-ideal scaling, are investigated. The simulation results show that the flat-wire open loop antenna has excellent frequency scalability. and the ideal scaling does not affect the percentage impedance bandwidth and the radiation patterns of the antenna. The quasi-ideal scaling with unscaled substrate thickness, excitation port diameter and loop and ground structure wall thicknesses is also capable of preserving the attractive qualities of the antenna while allowing for easier fabrication.
