A Triangularly Packed Planar Array of Dual-polarized L-band Flat-wire Open Loop Antennas

Previously, we proposed an L-band dual-polarized flat wire open loop antenna with wide bandwidth and low cross-polarization. In this work, we extend our study to its array form to improve the antenna gain. A triangular lattice is adopted to minimize the inter-element spacing and eliminate grating lobes. The simulation results show that a gain improvement of 5.82 dB can be achieved using a 4-element array while maintaining other attractive properties of the antenna. Due to the metallic ground plane side walls, despite of dense packing, the mutual coupling among elements is low.
