Direct-detection Single-photon Radar at Terahertz Frequencies

Terahertz single-photon radar is an emerging technology in recent years, which can be exploited to detect ultra-low target echo due to its high sensitivity. In this paper, the single-photon radar equation is derived to show the advantages in ranging improvement. Furthermore, the target ranging method is proposed and the detection performance is analyzed, for the direct-detection manner. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this new ranging scheme. This work is important for enhancing the terahertz radar operation range and can advance the remote sensing applications of terahertz technology.
