Research on Weak Traveling Wave Location Based on VMD-WMM method

In order to solve the problem of low position accuracy due to weak traveling wave signal in the case of high impendence earth fault in the distribution network, a method based on variational modal decomposition (VMD) and wavelet max modulus(WMM) method to realize the fault location under weak traveling waves. Firstly, using VMD on the component of fault current line to get multiple intrinsic mode function (IMF). Then, the mutation characteristics of the first IMF is received with the help of WMM to determine the arriving time of the weak traveling wavefront. Finally, PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results verify correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.
