A Generic Understanding of Damping Effect of Wind Power Generation with Inertial Response on Synchronous Generator

The inertia control in wind power generation is becoming a necessary trend in the future power system. Thus, the system electromechanical oscillation will be responded by the wind power generation and in turn, it will significantly affect the system electromechanical damping. The different inertia control seemingly has different characteristics and different effect on system damping. In this paper, we use a simplified model to understand the generic damping effect of different inertia control. One typical inertia control method is illustrated to study. This paper aims at helping people to clearly understand and quickly judge the influence of inertia control on system damping.
