Updating DPS-4 Ionosonde by Ionospheric Drift Measurements: the LocalDrift Software Package

The DPS-4 ionosonde is one of the most widespread modern digital tools. In the research mode “SkyMap”, it allows determining the polar and azimuth angles of each echo arrival and its Doppler frequency shift with high accuracy. The software package “LocalDrift” developed in this paper determines the direction and speed of movement of the ionospheric plasma using these data for the entire set of the reflection points obtained or for individual parts of this set selected according to given signatures.
