Analysis of the Influence of Deep Peak Shaving on the Operation Characteristics of Thermal Power Generator

With the development of the power system, the peak-to-valley difference of the operating load is increasing. It leads to higher amplitude of peak shaving and much more difficulty for improving this situation. At present, the installed capacity and power generation capability of thermal power units still play an important role in the whole power system. Thus, depending on deep peak-shaving of large thermal power units is the fundamental way to solve the problem. However, deep peak shaving devices will inevitably have a wide range of rapid changes on loads, which will cause a series of issues, such as efficiency of power generation decreasing and vibration increasing. In this article, combined with the typical accident case of the strand break of the power generation transformer, the influence of the local stress concentration caused by the alternating vibration load and deep peak shaving on the power generation transformer is analyzed. Meantime, in order to satisfy the requirements of rapid changes in large-scale deep peak shaving, the operation precautions and optimization directions of the transformer are proposed.
