Design of High Gain Koch-Curve Fractal Antenna for Wireless Applications

A Koch curve-based fractal boundary linearly polarized antenna having good characteristics is devised in this manuscript. The proposed structure operates in the frequency band of 2.2 GHz to 2.26 GHz. It is made on a Rogers RT/ Duroid 5880 (tm) substrate. The design is well effective for S-band applications. With the self-similarity property, the structure is designed with Koch fractal boundary hence confined to a lesser dimension. This results in achieving compactness and miniaturization of the antenna. By applying a second iteration to the fractal geometry and a symmetric triangular notch along two opposite sides of the antenna, the realized gain is found to be more than 6dBi throughout the operational frequency. A simulated peak realized gain value of 6.94 dBi is determined. The proposed antenna exhibits stable omnidirectional radiation patterns. The dimensions of the structure are confined to 55mm× 55mm× 3.2mm.
